ABS is widely used for consumer goods as it possesses high impact and mechanical strength, which allows products manufactured in ABS to be long-lasting and durable. Control panels, smoke alarms and extractor fans are a few examples of where ABS is used.

The challenges which may arise in this application are from generating a dark mark of high contrast whilst minimising the risk of material burning.

Our redENERGY G4 RM-Z Laser can generate a high quality mark and avoid the effects of material burning. This application is capable of multiple passes, with a darker mark being achieved after a second pass resulting in uniform coloration.

Process time for the 5mm characters shown in the above image were created at 6.4s. Alternatively, a 30W RM-Z at three passes would increase the cycle time to 8.7s but will give improved contrast with negligible blistering of the surface.
