Webinar – Welding with ns Pulsed Fiber Lasers

The use of conventional CW and Long Pulsed Laser for welding is well known, but the use of ns Pulsed Lasers represents a new direction offering both commercial and technical benefits. More commonly used for marking and engraving the use of these Lasers for welding is relatively unknown, but the parametric flexibility of today’s MOPA based Pulsed Fiber Lasers can enable a broad capability for a range of welding and joining applications. These Lasers are particularly suited to applications involving dissimilar metals or where control of heat input is required.

Jack Gabzdyl - VP Pulsed Business Line

Jack GabzdylDr Jack Gabzdyl is VP of the Pulsed Business Line at SPI Lasers, with expert knowledge in industrial Lasers and more than 30 years of Laser materials processing experience. Jack is widely published with over 50 technical conference papers and articles/publications and has given a number of technology based international webinars.

Jack has a degree in Metallurgy and Materials Science and obtained a PhD in Laser material processing from Imperial College London in 1989, focusing on developments in laser cutting.

He has since held a number of technical and marketing positions at: Center for Industrial Research (Oslo), BOC Gases, Advanced Laser Solutions and The Welding Institute (TWI) before joining SPI Lasers in 2007. Whilst at SPI Jack has held a number of positions prior to his current position: Business Development Manager, Product Line Manager and VP Sales & Marketing. In addition to his current role Jack is also responsible for Marketing and European Sales.

Jack is actively involved in the wider promotion of laser technology being chair of the UK Make it With Laser programme and a committee member of the Association of Industrial Laser Users (AILU) for many years. He is still chair of the AILU Special Interest Group for micro and nano laser processing.
