Production Supervisor

BACKGROUND

Working in a small scale, low volume, cost driven, fast paced environment the key focus of this role is to lead and develop a production section within the company to ensure the effective and efficient management of resources to enable timely completion of customers orders.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• To ensure product is made to schedule in a rapidly growing production line. • To ensure trained staff are available for each operation to meet schedule and to identify and develop team and individual skills within the area to maximise those skills to optimise individual and business performance. • To understand customer requirements and through the development of effective relationships across departments ensure both internal and external piece parts are on the line to meet the production schedule. • To manage conflicting demands on resources from Engineering and the production plan. • To deputise for Production Manager and be capable of developing into the Manager’s role. • To effectively lead, develop and motivate the Production area of up to 40 operators. • To effectively manage and measure headcount, volumes, adherence to plan, stock accuracy, delivery, quality and health and safety • To develop and maintain effective lines of communication both short and medium term, across all levels to ensure a consistent message. • To improve overall housekeeping within the area working towards the principles of 5S • To actively promote and manage continuous improvement in cost, yield, raw and elapsed cycle time within the area. • To meet and report regularly on key production metrics and manage overall efficiencies for the area. • To carry out day to day man management of team, e.g. monitoring performance, setting objectives, carrying out appraisals.

EXPERIENCE

• The ideal candidate will have previous experience as a production team leader or supervisor of a flow line, with a team of >15 operators in a high tech industry sector. • Experience of managing production and prioritising resources whilst ensuring shipping deadlines are met, preferably within a fast growth environment. • Working knowledge of lean manufacturing techniques and good understanding of cost driven performance. • Experience of monitoring & planning deliveries/ productivity in line with agreed targets, measures and Customer requirements. • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, ideally including electronic assembly and/or optical fibre handling. • Will have previous experience of manufacturing tools & techniques such as Kanban, 5 S • Good Health, Safety and Environmental awareness with an understanding of Risk Assessments and legislation.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Likely to have formal team leader/ supervisory qualifications.
